The beginning of our history dates back to 1989, when Rei dos Frangos opened its first take-away grill in Leiria.

And just like that… we became a family of 200!

WHO ARE WE?

Our roots.

The company Churrasqueiras Rei dos Frangos started its activity in 1989 in the take-away restaurant sector. Respect for good Portuguese food and the famous grilled chicken with piri-piri sauce made the first barbecue on Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque – Leiria – a modern and dynamic company, which today has more than 200 employees in Portugal.

The search for the quality of traditional recipes combined with the convenience of take-away have always been the decisive factors for the success of Rei dos Frangos. These principles remain with us to this day, helping us to establish a chain of 19 take-away grills and 3 casual dining restaurants, distributed from the Lisbon region to the northern center of Portugal.

In 2004, at our current headquarters in Leiria, we opened a industrial and technological unit with more than 7000 m2, where our recipes continue to be made according to traditional recipes, following the most demanding rules of HACCP, hygiene and food safety, always combined with a strict policy of selecting raw materials and preserving good flavors.

WHAT WE ARE?

We have been committed to exporting since 2010 with the launch of Frangus, our range of high quality frozen foods. It is essential to emphasize what is ourworld innovation and a best seller: the original Deep-frozen Grilled Chicken, with piri-piri sauce, lemon or orange. This innovation is the result of several years of development, based on the knowledge gained from our experience in the food sector.

Our selection of deep-frozen meals was – and still is – designed based on the success of the recipes in our brick-and-mortar stores, and always developed with demand for the authenticity of Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine. Each dish is prepared according to traditional recipes, always with natural ingredients of the highest quality. We never add coloring or dyes, preservatives or flavor enhancers; We put high HACCP standards into practice and we are certified with ISO 9001, ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 quality seals.

We have a portfolio of around 20 different dishes, produced in 350g format (individual portions for microwave cooking) and 2kg format (approximately 6 portions; conventional oven cooking). Our deep-frozen products have ideal characteristics for large retail, HORECA channel and catering services: extended shelf life (over 12 months), consistent quality from batch to batch, and an authentic-tasting recipe, superior to generic brand products.

WHAT WE WANT TO BE?

Our Portuguese flavors are very successful in the Portuguese community across borders, and they are gaining more and more fans of healthy Mediterranean food in practical and convenient formats. Whether in single-doses or prepared for the HORECA market, the challenge for Frangus products is, today, in the selection of partners that understand the trends of consumers and catering companies in an increasingly international and increasingly demanding market.

At the moment, Frangus is present in 13 countries in Europe and Asia, and in chains such as Auchan, SPAR, Carrefour, E.Leclerc, Delhaize, Intermarchè, Aligro, El Corte Inglés or Super U. International revenues represent around 20 % of the total turnover of Churrasqueiras Rei dos Frangos.
